In my practice...

The use of loupes in dentistry have enabled improved ergonomics and enhances delivery of clinical excellence due to the ability to visualise in a magnified manner.

Loupes are something that I use every single day of practice. After having had several different pairs of dental loupes and also a microscope, the development of innovative PRISMVUE NF2 loupes by PENTAX are really a step in the right direction for clinicians’ necks and posture.

These prismatic loupes incorporate unique deflection prisms and offer the surgeon a bright, magnified view of the operating field while maintaining upright posture and facing forward. It prevents the user from needing to hunching their neck and back forward. It allows a bright and wide field of view with good depth of field. The upright posture facing forward during operation prevents the user’s head from interfering with the surgical lights and ensures a bright field of view at all times.

There is a learning curve with these loupes and like anything new, one needs to learn to adapt as the head movement is different, especially when moving your head around to look at a tooth from a lateral view. Overall, they are a major advance in loupe design and the innovative deflection prism feature will ensure longevity and comfort in many dentist’s careers that struggle with conventional loupes.
